Fleksy, the company that launched one of the most popular third-party keyboards for Android-based devices, has launched a new messaging application for Samsung’s latest wearable, the Gear 2. Fleksy Messenger is the first keyboard to work with Samsung’s smartwatch, which means owners can reply to text messages quickly right from their wrist, without pulling out their phone.

Fleksy has made a name for itself as an add-on keyboard for Android devices. We’ve seen their keyboard appear on a Samsung-branded smartwatch before, as they launched an app for the original Galaxy Gear as well. But the release of Fleksy Messenger for the Tizen OS-based Gear 2 stands out for its ability to sync between the watch app and the user’s Android smartphone. The communication between the app and the phone allows Flesky Messenger to bring across previous conversations right to the watch, as well as sync your typing and word choice to make use of the predictive engine Fleksy utilizes.

The one thing to make note of is that, while Fleksy Messenger could theoretically sync with any Android-based handset, the Gear 2 smartwatch is only currently capable of supporting Samsung-branded devices (and tablets, for good measure). The app is available right now for free, via Samsung Apps.

Would you like to see this type of cross-platform functionality in more devices moving forward, even if it is only syncing data and content?
