I have been using the OnePlus 3 for well over a week now, and it is easily a very well rounded smartphone and the best that you can buy within $400. It has been a year since OnePlus first unveiled OxygenOS, and while the first release of the OS was buggy, the team has worked hard since then to fix all the bugs.

OxygenOS on the OnePlus 3 sure has matured and is definitely not as buggy as before. However, there are still some bugs present in the phone that you are likely going to encounter every once in a while. One such bug that has been driving me crazy is the phone not ringing when an incoming call comes in. This does not happen for all the incoming calls and the bug has been particularly hard to reproduce, but in a week, the problem has occurred well over a dozen times for me.

It is likely that OnePlus will fix this bug with the next OTA update for OxygenOS but until then, this bug is going to make using the OnePlus 3 a frustrating experience. After all, the basic purpose of a phone is to receive and make incoming calls, and the OnePlus 3 fails at at the very task.

Until OnePlus rolls out an update to fix the incoming call issue, here are some tips that should help in solving the problem for you — at least temporarily. The combination of the below steps worked for me, as I have not noticed the phone not ringing for an incoming call since then.

Change the default ringtone

A very simple and self-explanatory fix. Simply change the default ringtone on your OnePlus 3 and see if that fixes the issue for you or not. This can be done by going to Settings -> Sound & Notification -> Phone Ringtone and then selecting any other ringtone of your choice.

Restart the phone

Another simple and a relatively quick fix. Simply restart my OnePlus 3 led to the issue of the phone not ringing for incoming calls happening less frequently. And when combined with the above tip of changing the default ringtone, my OnePlus 3 has notified me of every single incoming call since then.

Do a factory reset

The above two tips worked for me, but that does not mean that they will work for you as well. In case they don’t, you should try doing a factory reset on the handset. While this will mean that you will have to set up the device once again and reinstall all your apps and games, this last resort fix seems to have worked for many.

If doing a factory reset is a bit too cumbersome for you, the only other option that you have left is to wait for OnePlus to roll out an OTA update for OxygenOS with the fix.

The bug is not specific to OnePlus 3 itself, and instead seems to be plaguing OxygenOS since many OnePlus 2 owners have also been complaining of the same issue. If you are one such affected OnePlus 2 owner, make sure to try the steps mentioned above since they are likely to work on your handset as well.
