Despite the smartphone market slowing down and the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, Samsung expects to sell its upcoming flagship — the Galaxy S8 — in record numbers. So, keeping up with its expectations and early consumer interest surrounding the device, Samsung has reportedly almost doubled the first shipments of the Galaxy S8.
Compared to the 12 million units that Samsung shipped in the first batch of the Galaxy S7 last year, the company is hoping to ship almost 17 million units of the Galaxy S8 initially. Out of the total 17 million units, Samsung has already allocated a larger share to the Galaxy S8+ which is expected to come with a 6.2-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display. In comparison, the regular Galaxy S8 will come with a 5.8-inch Quad HD display.
Samsung has set itself a target of shipping 60 million Galaxy S8 units this year, up from the 48 million units for the Galaxy S7 from last year.
The Korean company has delayed the launch of the Galaxy S8 this year due to the stringent safety measures it has employed post the Note 7 battery fies. The handset is expected to be unveiled on March 29 and will go on sale in most markets by mid-April.
