Why trust Greenbot
Back in February, more than a month before the HTC One M8 went official, the Taiwanese manufacturer announced two mid-range devices, the Desire 610 and Desire 816. At the time, the phones were showcased running on the then current version of HTC’s UI, Sense 5.5, but it seems HTC has since found the time to update them to Sense 6, as has been revealed by hands-on pictures of both devices.
The Desire 610 and 816 have hit China first, and pictures published by ePrice confirm that the two handsets are running Android 4.4 KitKat underneath the latest iteration of HTC’s custom software. This is a stark departure from what we’ve seen in the past — earlier, we would be looking at a few months of waiting before the newest Sense UI would show up on the company’s non-flagship smartphones — which suggests that HTC is working on keeping its mid-range devices as up to date as its flagship ones.
Of course, there’s also the fact that Sense 6 was probably not ready back in February, but in any case, it’s a good move on HTC’s part and will hopefully become a trend with the company’s upcoming smartphones.
