Do you live on Facebook? Is it the primary way you connect with friends and family? Then you’ll want to make sure you grab the latest update to Facebook Messenger. Not only does it have a new look, but it also has SMS integration built in so you can use the app to chat with your friends who have given up on Facebook because they’re either bored of the service or they want to have some semblance of privacy.
But Stefan, I updated the app, and I don’t see the SMS option, what gives? The thing is, Facebook says they’re testing the feature with “a limited number of people”. How limited is limited? I don’t really know. Something tells me Facebook saw the news about Android 4.4 KitKat allowing you to set a new default SMS application and they want to begin experimenting so that they’re ready whenever Samsung, HTC, Sony, etc., begin updating their devices to the latest version of Android.
Should you even use Messenger?
For the life of me, I’ve never really understood why this app exists. If you install the Facebook app on your phone, and chances are your phone came with it installed out of the box, then you already receive push notifications for new messages. Sure, there’s no SMS integration, but is that really such a bad thing? I’m willing to bet that you’re already using LINE, WhatsApp, Viber, or any of the other over the top messaging clients that are popular within your circle of friends.
While I’m on the subject of Facebook, I’m curious, are any of you using Home?
