David Marcus from Facebook today announced on Twitter that the company will start rolling out a new version of Facebook Messenger for Android starting from today that will come with a brand new Material Design.

Facebook has been previously caught testing a new Material Design inspired UI, so this update should not really surprise regular tech lovers. The update does not really bring a drastic UI overhaul, but the little changes made in the app will help in starting a new chat or browsing around the app easier.

The app now contains a FAB (Floating Action Bar) that provides you with quick options to start a new chat, video call, voice call or a group chat. You can also set nicknames to individual contacts, and the update also adds the new ‘like’ buttons introduced by Facebook recently.

Facebook was also rumored to reintroduce SMS integration to its Messenger client, but that feature does not seem to be present in the update that is being rolled out today.
