Unable to unlock the bootloader of the Redmi Note 5 Pro? You are not alone. Indian Redmi Note 5 Pro owners have been unable to unlock the bootloader of their device, with an error 86006 coming up during the process. The error is limited to only the Indian variant of the Redmi Note 5 Pro, with owners of the Chinese and global variants of the handset easily being able to unlock its bootloader.
More specifically, the issue is limited to ‘Made in India’ units of the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The first flash sale of the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India had units from China, and owners of those units have been able to successfully unlock its bootloader.
Xiaomi’s own MIUI forums, as well as XDA forums, are filled with threads from frustrated Redmi Note 5 Pro owners complaining about the issue. The lack of any official response from Xiaomi has only further frustrated these users.

The error comes when one tries to unlock the bootloader of their Redmi Note 5 Pro using the Mi Unlock tool. During the unlocking process, error 86006 comes up citing that the current account is not bound to this device. This is despite logging into the phone and PC with the same Mi account. This clearly points to this being a server-side issue from Xiaomi which it can probably fix with a software update. However, it has been well over a month since Indian Redmi Note 5 Pro owners have been complaining about it, but Xiaomi has maintained complete silence on the matter.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro is an incredibly popular device among the third-party modding community, with developers creating quite a few mods for it to enhance its capabilities. So, it is quite frustrating for Indian Redmi Note 5 Pro owners that they cannot use them on their phone because they are unable to unlock its bootloader all because of Xiaomi.
