Dropbox for Android

One of the most popular cloud storage services out there, Dropbox has just released an update to their Android-based application that will make many users happy, especially those who have been waiting for document previews for Word documents, PowerPoint presentations or PDFs on their Android devices.

Announced on August 11 via their official blog, Dropbox has confirmed that a new version of the Android app will begin rolling out to the Google Play Store throughout the afternoon, and should land on individual devices as the day progresses. With the update, users will be able to instantly preview any Word document, PowerPoint presentation or PDF right from their Android device, while also being able to scroll, zoom and more without having to exit out of the app:

You can now instantly preview any Word document, PowerPoint presentation, or PDF in your Dropbox straight from your Android device. This means you can view, scroll, and zoom in on your travel docs without needing to switch out of the Dropbox app.

The other major bullet point for the update, though, is a smarter way to search in the app. You can now search through specific folders in the Dropbox app, which should make finding what you’re looking for easier than ever before. (hikeaddicts) You’ll also now be presented with “typeahead” suggestions as you type:

You can now search in specific folders, or in your entire Dropbox

To make sure you don’t miss a thing, Dropbox highlights the names of matching files or folders as you type your search.“

For those of you out there that use shared folders, you will now be able to implement view-only parameters for folders as you see fit, right from the app.
