The analysts at DisplayMate have just published a piece comparing three smartphones: HTC’s One, Huawei’s Ascend D2, and Sony’s Xperia Z. All three have 1080p displays. Why wasn’t the S4 included in this comparison? Because DisplayMate already published a separate piece on that particular model.
So what do they think? Surprisingly, they say Huawei’s Ascend D2 has the best 1080p panel on the market. They say the colors and viewing angles on that particular panel are just as good as those found in Apple’s iPhone 5 and retina iPad. With regards to the HTC One, they’re a bit miffed as to why the Taiwanese handset maker introduced “unnecessary image and color processing” into the device, effectively ruining the display’s output.
But the worst display, hands down, was found in Sony’s Xperia Z. Check out this quote:
“The performance of the Sony Xperia Z flagship top-of-the-line Smartphone can only be described as extremely disappointing – even shocking, given that Sony was once the best display manufacturer in the world, famous for their beautiful and accurate picture quality – something they brag about on their Xperia Z web page – but is very far from reality for the Xperia Z.”
I get a lot of grief from Sony fans about the comments I make about Sony’s display, but it looks like I’m not alone in thinking it’s one of the worst screens to be put in a high end device.
