This year has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride for the CyanogenMod team. First, the founders and core members of the team founded a company — Cyanogen Inc. — with an aim to become the third largest eco-system in the mobile world. This led to some community backlash initially, and some members leaving the team, but all is well now. Then last week, the company received another $23 million in funding allowing it to look beyond smartphones.
The CyanogenMod team has hit another high just before Christmas , with their user base crossing the 10 million mark earlier today. For a custom ROM, breaching the 10 million mark is nothing short of a momentous feat. The CyanogenMod stats page also provides up some interesting statistics collected from these 10 million CM users. The top 3 devices running CyanogenMod out there are the Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S3, respectively.
The CyanogenMod team will be rapidly rolling out new features, enhancements and simply the installation process of their ROM in 2014 via their CM Installer, which should help them to at least double, if not triple, their growth in 2014.
Keep in mind that the 10 million figure only takes those users who have opted in for CMStats. It does not include all the unofficial builds, kangs and users who did not enter the CMStats program. The CyanogenMod team pegs their unofficial user base to be around 20 to 30 million users.
