The CyanogenMod team today announced that they will start rolling out CM12.1 builds — based on Android 5.1 — for a bunch of devices from today.

The builds will be safe to flash on top of your existing CM12 installation, and sport most — if not all — the features already found in CM12.

If you are planning on installing CM12.1 on your device though, do note that you will also have to find the accompanying Google Apps ZIP package. You must install this ZIP file along with the ROM itself otherwise you will run into issues.

As always, the first builds of CM12.1 for your device might have some issues or regressions, so if stability if of utmost importance to you, it is recommended that you don’t install the ROM on your device.

In its announcement, the team also clarified that CyanogenMod — the community version of Cyanogen OS — will not be coming pre-loaded with any of the Microsoft apps that its partnership with the Redmond company will see it pre-load on Cyanogen OS. However, developers will see new APIs in the source code, and it will be up to them and the users to take advantage of it if they want to.

When they will be available, CyanogenMod 12.1 can be downloaded from here.
