Up until now, the CyanogenMod team have bundled the AOSP Camera app in their ROM. The team did try building their own camera app called Focal, but that ended up turning into a huge licensing issue for them.
Not to be deterred by one failed attempt, the CyanogenMod team has now started including a new camera app called Snap in the nightly builds of their ROM, which replaces their AOSP camera app. The app is based on the Snapdragon camera app from Qualcomm and while does not feature many advanced features, it is significantly faster to use compared to the AOSP and even the Google camera app.
In terms of functionality, Snap camera allows you to control the exposure, white balance, change the storage location, and apply a bunch of different scenes. It does not, however, allow you to shoot pictures in RAW/DNG, change the ISO levels or control the shutter speed. Nonetheless, the easy to use UI and speedy performance make Snap camera well worth using.
It is also possible that over time the CM team will add all the advance features that are currently missing from the app on certain Android devices. On certain devices, like the LG G4, Snap camera already supports features like an HDR mode and shutter speed control.
Snap camera comes as the default camera app in all CyanogenMod 13 nightlies released on or after 10th January.
