Last week, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei announced that Cyanogen Inc. will not be providing software updates for the OnePlus One in India because of their exclusive deal with Yu. This came as a shock to many since the OnePlus One was the first handset to ship with CyanogenMod out of the box.
Today, Cyanogen Inc. has issued a statement, which contradicts what OnePlus co-founder said last week. In its announcement, the company says that it remains committed to its users, and will be providing OTA firmware updates for the global variant of the OnePlus One, including the one sold in India.
Rather than have misinformation continue to circulate out there, we felt it important to bring this matter to rest. — Cyanogen Inc.
The company also shed some light into its deal with Micromax’s Yu brand by saying that it will allow them to “push the envelope and take Cyanogen OS to new heights.” The new Yu brand of devices will also allow them to bring “high quality, amazing experiences” to users in India.
Lastly, the company reaffirms its users that it remains a user focused company, and will support its users wherever its OS is used and distributed.
