Why trust Greenbot
Let’s be honest, Windows 8 has been a huge flop. It’s not just because the OS is radically different, there are other factors at play; two immediately spring to mind. First, computers just last longer than they used to. We’re not in the 90s anymore, when PCs because twice as fast every year to year and a half. A computer from three to five years ago is just as good today as it was back then. And second, the bigger reason, is people want tablets. They’re easier to use, more portable, have great battery life, and are often cheaper.
According to DigiTimes, Google wants to take advantage of Microsoft’s misstep by launching a huge Chromebook assault on the market. The piece says for every Chromebook shipped during the first half of this year, between two and three will ship during this half. Who will be making these Chromebooks? Acer, Lenovo, HP, and Samsung.
But why buy a Chromebook instead of tablet? I’d argue that a Chromebook is basically a tablet that looks like a regular laptop. The operating system is self contained, it’s damn near impossible to corrupt, it auto-updates. Frankly, it’s less of a computer and more of an appliance, just like a tablet.
