A handful of Galaxy S6 and S6 edge owners over at XDA forums are reporting that their handset does not come with a Sony IMX240 rear camera sensor. Instead, their handset comes with Samsung’s own ISOCELL camera sensor, which arguably outputs inferior images in low-light.

Samsung is apparently using the S5KP2 ISOCELL sensor on certain Galaxy S6 and S6 edge units, though details about this particular sensor are not yet known. It is likely that the sensor offers similar performance to Sony’s IMX240 sensor.

However, certain S6 owners with the Samsung sensor feel that the low-light performance of Samsung’s sensor is not as good as Sony’s IMX240, though it can be a placebo effect.

To check which sensor your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge comes with, simply open the Dialer app and key in *#34971539# and then tap the ‘ISP VER CHECK’ button.

Samsung is known to use different sensors on its flagship handsets, so certain Galaxy S6 units coming with Samsung’s own sensor should not really come as a surprise.
