If you’re planning on buying a Nexus 7, boy do I have some good news for you. Starting today, if you buy a Nexus 7 from Google’s US Play Store, Google will give you $25 of Play Store credit, no questions asked. This isn’t just a Thanksgiving and Christmas offer, either, it expires on the last day of March 2014. That gives you four whole months to get in on this.

What exactly can you purchase? Apps, sure, but don’t forget that Google also sells movies, magazines, books, and even music. It isn’t clear to me if you can use this $25 voucher to pay for Play Music All Access, but no biggie, there’s a whole bunch of other stuff in the Play Store.

Should you even buy the Nexus 7? I’d say that you’d be hard pressed to find a better tablet at the $229 price point. Personally, I’d fork over a little bit extra for the 32 GB model with 4G LTE. That’s $350, which is still cheaper than the $399 16 GB retina iPad mini that’s WiFi only.

Fast forward to Christmas day, which apps should you buy with your free $25 credit? I’d pay attention to any sales going on. Developers often slash the prices of their apps for the holidays, so that $25 will go a long way when a bunch of $5 games go on sale for just $0.99.
