Yesterday, February 25, Broadcom talked up the future of its platform meant specifically for Android Wear, and how it wants to make the smartwatch OS from Google even better with hardware.

As reported by PhoneScoop, Broadcom recently announced a new platform for Android Wear smartwatches that not only promises big gains in battery life, but also aims to offer 2G/3G modem support. It will include a quad-core Cortex A7 application processor to get the job done. It will also pair with Broadcom’s Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi combination chip, a GPS SoC that includes an integrated sensor hub, wireless charging and NFC with a secure element.

Essentially, Broadcom is throwing hardware at this new platform, and if it pans out, Android Wear could see a significant boost.

That’s not all, either. The platform will also support cameras, and Broadcom says that the system will offer 40% power savings compared to the previous generation platform. Broadcom says they are already sampling this new platform.
