It’s one thing to read a rumor on DigiTimes or some random Chinese web forum, it’s another thing altogether when one of the world’s most respected business publications publishes a rumor. According to Bloomberg, not only does a smaller HTC One exist, but they say it’ll be on sale this summer — specifically August. There’s no detailed spec sheet in their article, though they do “confirm” the 4.3 inch screen size.

Now we’ve already seen a photo of the HTC One Mini thanks to @evleaks and some random Estonian website, and to no one’s surprise it looks exactly like the HTC One. The spec sheet that’s been floating around the internets says the 4.3 inch screen will have a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, and that the processor under the hood will be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400. Both of those make a ton of sense when you consider that HTC already built a phone with those exact same components, the First, aka the Facebook phone.

The only thing I want to know about the One Mini is the price. Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Mini, which I had a chance to play with earlier this week, is a fabulous phone. Unfortunately, it costs 500 EUR. If the HTC One Mini is priced in the same ballpark, then I’m struggling to understand why someone would pick the smaller (and slightly inferior) One Mini instead of the original One.
