The Xiaomi Mi 5 went for sale in India towards the end of March. Since the handset made its debut in the country within a month of going on sale in China, Xiaomi was still struggling to fulfil the demand surrounding the handset in its home country. Due to this, the company only launched the white variant of the Mi 5 in India with 32GB of storage space.
Almost three months down the line, the company is now finally launching the black variant of the Mi 5 in the country as well. The Mi 5 is one of those handsets that looks sleek and sexy in black, and cheap and plasticky in white, so this is a welcome introduction from Xiaomi. The black Mi 5 will also allow the company to better take on the OnePlus 3 that launched in India last week. While the Mi 5 does pack inferior specs to the OnePlus 3, it can be argued that it at least looks better than it in black.
The black Mi 5 is already available for purchase through Amazon India and Flipkart for Rs. 24,999. A quick reminder of the specs of the Mi 5: the 7.25mm thin handset comes with a 5.15-inch Full HD display, a Snapdragon 820 chipset clocked at 1.8GHz, 3GB LPDDR4 RAM, 32GB of UFS storage, 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, and a USB Type-C port.
Xiaomi also plans on launching the gold variant of the Mi 5 in India soon. The company is yet to announce when it plans to launch the higher storage variant of the Mi 5 in the country.
