Google Drive backup in WhatsApp

Google today announced that it is partnering with Facebook to offer the option to automatically backup your WhatsApp chat history and media files to Google Drive.

In addition to your media files, you will also be able to backup your voice messages, videos, and almost any other content that you receive over the platform.

You have the option to include videos in your backup or not, and even set the backup frequency to daily, weekly, monthly, or never. If you use multiple Google accounts on your device, you will be glad to know that you will be able to select the account manually on which your backups are saved.

These WhatsApp chat backups can then be easily restored on another device in just a couple of taps. Google says that the backup feature will be available to millions of WhatsApp users from across the world over the next few months. Yes, months, and not weeks. The backup option will automatically show up under WhatsApp settings for you since this is a server side update.
