Android August 2015 distribution

Usually, Google updates its Android Developers website to reflect the monthly distribution numbers for its mobile operating system.

The company skipped the month of July, though, so it’s been a bit of stretch since we last saw how Android was doing out there in the wild. With the August 2015 numbers finally released, with the information pulled from the last 7 days and gathered from devices accessing the Google Play Store app, one thing is for sure: Android 5.x Lollipop is still being adopted.

In June 2015, Android 5.0 Lollipop was only on just over 12 percent of devices. However, that number has jumped up to 18.1% of devices, thanks to Android 5.0 running on 15.5 percent of devices, and Android 5.1 now on 2.6%.

Going back further, Android 4.4 KitKat is now on 39.3 percent of devices registered in the numbers, which actually sees an increase from 39.2 percent that KitKat saw back in June. Android 4.1 – 4.3 Jelly Bean is now on 33.6 percent of devices, which is a drop from the 37.4 percent of devices it recorded in June of this year. And, finally, the Android 4.x version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich are now on a total of 4.1% of devices.
