Last night, @evleaks posted a bunch of press renders of the Galaxy S5 Active and a few hours later, AT&T and Samsung have gone off and made the device official. The Galaxy S5 Active sports similar specs as the Galaxy S5 including a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, 2GB of RAM and a 16MP camera.
Other specs of the handset include a 5.1-inch Super-AMOLED 1080p screen, a microSD card slot and a 2800mAh battery. What sets the Galaxy S5 Active apart from its another Galaxy brother is its rugged design that is meant to handle the wear and tear of an active lifestyle.
The press release from AT&T teases the Galaxy S5 Active to be “shock resistant, water resistant and dust proof.” It also sports the same IP rating (IP67) as the Galaxy S5, allowing the phone to be submersible in up to 1m of water for up to 30mins.
Interestingly, Samsung has also included a “convenience key” on the side of the Galaxy S5 Active, allowing users to launch any of the pre-defined app easily.
The Galaxy S5 Active is going to be available exclusively on AT&T in the United States for $199 on a two-year contract or for $27.50 per month for 18 months via AT&T Next 18 plan. If you end up pairing a Gear Fit with the S5, the company will be giving you an additional discount of 50$. The handset is already available for sale.
