ASUS today confirmed to Focus Taiwan that its upcoming smartwatch running Android Wear — the ZenWatch — will feature voice recognition and a price tag of less than $199.
The Taiwanese OEM is all set to unveil the ZenWatch in a couple of days from now at IFA in Berlin.
According to the CEO of ASUS, Jerry Shen, the ZenWatch will initially launch with support for English voice recognition. The company, however, plans on adding Chinese voice recognition support by the end of this year. Google has limited the customization possible on Android Wear by OEMs so it is not yet clear as to how ASUS will be adding support for Chinese voice recognition on its watch.
The watch will go on sale only in October in the United States and other key markets with a price tag that is lower than $199.
Shen also revealed that the ZenWatch can either be used as a standalone watch or can be paired with Android devices to enable additional functionality.
Back in August, ASUS had revealed that its smartwatch was “well-received” by the folks over at Google mainly for its design and the low price tag.
