Asus today unveiled the ZenFone Max Pro M1 in India. Minus its weird and complicated name, the handset seems to be a winner and undercuts the massively popular Redmi Note 5 Pro in almost every department.

The ZenFone Max Pro M1 comes with a 5.99-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display with 450-nit brightness. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 chipset running at 1.8GHz. It is the second handset after the Redmi Note 5 Pro to launch with this chipset. Other specs include 3/4/6GB RAM, 32/64GB of storage, a microSD card slot, dual-SIM connectivity, Bluetooth 4.2, micro-USB port, fingerprint scanner located at its rear, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

There’s a massive 5,000mAh battery powering the handset. Asus has thankfully also included fast charging support. There’s a dual-camera setup at the rear which comprises of a 13MP OmniVision sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and a secondary 5MP depth sensor. The camera is capable of taking photos in portrait mode and recording 4K videos. At the front, there is an 8MP f/2.0 shooter with Full HD video recording.

As you can see, the specs of the phone are very similar to that of the Redmi Note 5 Pro. What’s more important is the fact that the ZenFone Max Pro M1 undercuts the Redmi Note 5 Pro in the price department. The base variant with 3GB RAM/32GB storage is priced at Rs 10,999, while the 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant is priced at Rs 12,999. Asus will also launch a 6GB RAM variant down the line for Rs 14,999.

The ZenFone Max Pro M1 goes on sale on Flipkart from early next month.
