Earlier this year, Google announced a slate of new devices that will be Daydream VR-ready, including the ASUS-branded ZenFone AR.
The ZenFone AR also boasts the ability to run augmented reality (AR)-based apps, thanks to Project Tango, so it’s a jack of all trades at this point. And now, for anyone waiting to pick up the handset in the United States, the wait is almost coming to an end. Today, ASUS announced that the ZenFone AR will arrive later this summer, and that it will be an exclusive Verizon Wireless device when it does.
There’s no word on an exact launch date just yet, and pricing information will be revealed at some point ahead of the launch.
As far as specifications go, the ZenFone AR features a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440×2560. There’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor under the hood, along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage. It’s outfitted with a 23-megapixel camera on the back, and it’s running Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. It also supports DTS Surround Sound and “Superior Hi-Res Audio.”
If you’ve been wanting a phone that supports both AR with Project Tango and VR with the Daydream platform, this might be the handset to consider.
