Asus today provided a timeline for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for some of its ZenFone handsets. Compared to other companies, Asus has been extremely slow in announcing its rollout plans, but it is at least good to see the company updating majority of its mid-range smartphones being released last year to M.
The below ZenFone and PadFone models from Asus will be receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update by Q2, 2016:
-
PadFone S (PF500KL)
-
ZenFone 2 (ZE550ML, ZE551ML)
-
ZenFone 2 Deluxe (ZE551ML)
-
ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition (ZE551ML)
-
ZenFone 2 Laser (ZE500KG, ZE500KL, ZE550KL, ZE551KL, ZE600KL, ZE601KL)
-
ZenFone Selfie (ZD551KL)
-
ZenFone Max (ZC550KL)
-
ZenFone Zoom (ZX551ML)
The company also announced that it will be retiring three of its ZenUI apps with the Android M release: ASUS Messenger, ASUS Mail and ASUS Calendar. Instead, the company will be replacing Google’s Messenger, Calendar and Gmail apps with them.
A Q2, 2016 rollout means that we will only see Asus start rolling out updates from and after April 2016, which is comparatively slower than other companies which are ruling the mid-range smartphone market currently, including Huawei’s Honor, OnePlus and others.
