With the innovation of smartphones, it was only time before they became a platform to view and stream content on the go. In the wake of increasing reliance for smart content Asus has unveiled the ZenFone Go TV, a 5.5 inch phone that was launched in Taiwan at a retail price of US $170. The most important feature of the phone is its ability to tune in on digital TV broadcasts (in select countries).
The device features an IPS display (1280 x 720 pixel), Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB built in ROM that is expandable by up to 64GB with a microSD card. The phone ships with Android 5.1, a 13MP rear shooter and a 5MP front camera; all of which is powered by a 3010mAh battery. The main selling point being the Sony SMT-EW100 dogota — TV tuner, which should be able to pick up DB-T, DB-T2, ISDB-T, and ISDB-tmm signals.
Surprisingly, for a phone that is designed for viewing content, the Asus ZenFone Go TV does not sport a Full HD screen. Why Asus has done this for the ZenFone Go TV, remains a mystery, however, the lower resolution screen should help conserve battery life which will allow for longer hours of watching digital TV.
For now, it is expected that the tuner should be able to pick digital signals in parts of Europe, Asia, Middle-East and South America. Given this, though this model has been currently launched only in Taiwan, there is a possibility of it being available in the highlighted regions.
Let us know if you would like to watch digital TV on a mobile device, or if watching GoT at the office would be a problem.
