ASUS has released an official utility for the ZenFone 2 that allows users to quickly and easily unlock their handset’s bootloader. The tool paves the way for custom recoveries, ROMs, and other third-party tweaks — but it comes with some warnings.
Although this is an official tool, using it to unlock your ZenFone 2’s bootloader will still void its warranty. Be sure you’re happy with that before you proceed, then, because you’ll be stuck without support later should anything go wrong with your handset.
ASUS also warns that you should update your ZenFone 2 to software version 2.20.40.59 or later before attempting to use this tool.
If you rely on custom ROMs and recoveries, then losing your warranty is a small price to pay to unlock your ZenFone 2’s bootloader — and it’s great to see ASUS is allowing this option with an official unlock tool. You can download it now from the ASUS MyZen blog.
