Fit will soon be a more reliable workout companion thanks to several new features that are currently in the works.

According to an A teardown by Android lice of version 1.6.1, your goal tracking will soon get a lot more detailed. There’s a new climbing goal, which could be used if you’re running the stairs or possibly using something like a climbing wall.

Beyond that there are specific exercises you’ll be able to track, such as an abdominal crunch, bench press, Russian twist (sounds painful), tricep extension. There were 51 new exercises discovered in the code, although there could certainly be more when an updated version arrives.

A couple of other new features include improvements to the detected activity confirmations, with a goal of making them more reliable. I’ve found will sometimes wrongly attribute a brisk walk to a bike ride or even a run.

None of the above are live just yet; the latest version has no readily visible new features, all this stuff is just buried in the code, waiting for a future release. Additionally there’s evidence that Fit will finally get the round app treatment, just like most other apps get, for better uniformity with launchers that support the new stard, like that on the xel.

The Fit icon is going round, after it goes through some development steps first.

One item that’s actually live now is an ability to backup the app’s data to an external source. However, this isn’t something you’re likely to need if you stick to syncing all the content with your account across devices.

You can get the latest update to Fit from the ay Store or A Mirror.

y this matters: Much of this will become more important when rolls out Android ar 2.0 makes a bigger push with its wearable platform. Things are kind of at a ststill now, with Android ar 2.0 delayed to 2017. If you have an approved watch, however, you can try out the developer preview.
