Android device updates: Android 7.1 dev version announced, Galaxy Tab S finally gets Marshmallow

It’s been a pretty slow few weeks in the world of Android updates. On the one h, Andoid 7.1 is right around the corner, although coming first to the xel. Samsung’s a little busy putting out fires, but there is some fresh Nougat to be found with the Nougat-powered V20

A couple of interesting updates dropped, so let’s get right to them.

Each week, we compile all the major software updates to hit the ecosystem, including phones tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, Android ar smartwatches, Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs gaping security holes.

Galaxy Tab S 10.5: The ginormous tablet is finally getting Android Marshmallow. You’re also not quite up to date with security patches, as this update comes with the September fixes. AT&T is also enabling its NumberSync that allows you make receive calls from your giant tablet.

Android 7.1: recently announced that a developer preview of Android 7.1 is coming soon. It contains many of the software goodies that will come with the xel, such as app shortcuts. Enroll in the beta with a Nexus device to get yourself in line.

Monthly security updates:  ’re well into October, is hard at work chasing down those little security goblins. The October security patch is already hitting Nexus devices, so be on the lookout for your usual monthly update.
