Sprint’s G4 is joining a very exclusive club: non-Nexus phones with Android Marshmallow.
It was the highlight in a week that showed us the winter doldrums have set in for software updates. Hopefully after a nice holiday nap, phone makers carriers will start churning out the Marshmallow again.
Each week, we compile all the major software updates to hit the Android ecosystem, including phones tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, Android ar smartwatches, Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs gaping security holes.
Sprint
G4: Here’s a lovely tmas miracle for you: Marshmallow is on its way to your G4. Our review found it to be a solid device, the latest version of Android should make it that much sweeter. Sprint says you should see an over-the-air update, so be on the lookout for it.
Motorola
Moto X (2014): It appears there’s some Marshmallow headed across the pond. Several readers alerted Android lice their devices received the Android Marshmallow update on last year’s Moto X. Motorola often rolls out Marshmallow overseas first before bringing it stateside (thanks, carriers), so if you have a variant of the Moto X it may not be long before you get Android 6.0.
Android distribution numbers
December update: Marshmallow keeps creeping along, now up to .5 percent in the latest numbers from . Of course that’s less than Gingerbread or Ice Cream Swich, but sometimes you need to look on the bright side.
llipop made a decent leap, now running on nearly 30 percent of phones tablets. th KitKat still hanging in there at 36 percent, developers still need to support at least Android 4.4 above to get their apps on the majority of devices.
