A executive has finally admitted what we all knew: they blew it when it came to selling the Nexus 6.

The mea culpa came from Financial Officer chette during ’s earnings call on Thursday.

“ile the Nexus 6 was well received as a new phone, we had real issues were unable to secure sufficient inventory to meet the dem that we had forecasted,” he said.

The phone has been sold out almost the entire time since its November launch. Usually when it goes back on sale, the supply doesn’t last beyond a couple of hours.

On Friday the Midnight Blue Cloud ite models were sold out in 64GB variations but available in 32GB models. The projected ship date is listed as February 6th.

Another issue could be carriers getting a bigger share of the supply so they’ll have it in stock. The Nexus 6, unlike its previous model, retails for the same price of other flagships is for sale from all four carriers. 

The best option to get it unlocked has been through Motorola’s online store, which has had more success keeping the phone in stock. 

The story behind the story: This isn’t the first time has struggled to meet dem for its Nexus phone. The Nexus 5 had similar problems, though clearly the company didn’t put any processes in place to remedy this for the Nexus 6 launch. Selling pure Android phones just doesn’t seem to be a major priority at : along with the Nexus 6 woes the company has shuttered sales for all of its ay ition devices.
