Samsung introduced the lower-end cousin to the Galaxy S5 on Tuesday, but when it will l in the U.S. remains a mystery. The Galaxy S5 mini comes loaded with the same sensors general look of Samsung’s higher-powered flagship phone.
The 4.5-inch hset will still have the larger Galaxy S5’s fingerprint scanner, heart rate monitor, dust water resistance (up to 3.28 feet). The new S5’s specs, however, are what make it the mini.
Instead of a 5.1-inch 1080p display, the mini has a pared-down 4.5-inch screen with 1280-by-720 resolution. The mini’s quad-core processor is a little slower at 1.4GHz compared to the 2.5GHz SoC on the larger S5, the camera’s mega-pixel count has been cut in half to 8M
The S5 mini also comes with 1.5GB RAM, 16GB onboard storage, microSD slot for another 64GB (80GB max.), 2.1Mfront-facing camera, 2100mAh battery, Android 4.4 KitKat. For connectivity you’ve got 802.11a/b/g/n -Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, E.
The S5 mini will come in black, white, blue, gold, ls first in Russia in the coming weeks before exping to the rest of the world.
at that means for a potential U.S. launch date is anybody’s guess. In 2013, Samsung introduced the S4 mini in May, but didn’t bring the smaller hset to U.S. shores until the holiday shopping season.
Assuming the S5 mini is headed to North America, a late 2014 debut is likely, although anyone truly desperate to get their hs on the new Mini can always look for a reseller online.
icing was not announced, but when the smaller S4 rolled out in late 2013 it sold for $50 with a two-year contract.
