The HTC Volantis, or Flounder (or whatever you want to call it), has recently popped up in the rumor mill again. @evleaks recently detailed the upcoming tablet by sharing a hful of specifications, they sound delightfully over the top.

According to @evleaks, the 8.9-inch tablet will come with silver aluminium unibody construction, which would be nothing out of the ordinary for HTC. so expected is an unsurprising addition of BoomSound speakers. That’s where the seemingly “solid” specs end. Every other detail comes with a footnote.

The Volantis is also expected to be powered by the 64-bit Nvidia Tegra K1, but the Snapdragon 810 is being used for testing. It’ll come with 5GB of RAM, but that’s not finalized. It has a resolution of 1680×1050, but should be 2560×1600 when it launches. The  test unit has a 5 megapixel camera but is said to have a 8 megapixel camera when its released. As you can see, there are a lot of “if buts” when it comes to the Volantis. Then again, that’s how these rumors usually go.

The photo you see above is a macro shot of the alleged tablet, where you’ll find both the words “Flounder” “Android Silver OS pha 1.4” hiding. ile this doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise, seeing those names are a welcomed sight. Still, calling Android Silver an OS of its own, instead of a retail marketing program, is confounding.

There’s still quite a bit of mystery surrounding the HTC Volantis, I’d imagine we won’t have anything cleared up until this fall, when Android /a> launches in final form.
