IFA is just around the corner, and it’s going to be a huge event, as it usually is, with plenty of new devices finding their way into the limelight. Some will get a shorter time than others, though, and so Archos is looking to avoid the clutter by announcing a series of new devices ahead of the conference.
Archos officially unveiled a pair of new smartphones, along with a new tablet, on August 26. The hero device is called the 50b Platinum, and it features a 5-inch display, with a quad-core processor tucked inside, and an 8-megapixel camera on the back. It will be running Android 4.4.x KitKat right out of the box, and have a price tag around £119. The 45c Platinum will be a smaller variant, but the details are lacking, even with the official announcement. (Which means they’re going to talk about it all over again next week, probably.) It will launch in September (like the 50b Platinum) for around £99.
And then there’s the tablet, which Archos is calling the 101 Oxygen. It has a 1080p HD display, but the exact size is missing. There’s an ARM A17 quad-core processor inside, and it will have 1.5GB of RAM. It will launch in October for £199.
While many of the pertinent details are missing, the general scope is there: mid-range devices with cheap price tags. Hopefully when Archos finishes painting the picture at IFA, these devices look much more worthwhile.
