Andy Rubin, Android co-founder, has been working on a new smartphone, and today, he took to Twitter to tease the device. The tweet from Rubin carries an image that shows the corner of a smartphone that features a bezel-less design, but that’s about it.
The new smartphone is a product from Rubin’s new company, Essential Products Inc., which focuses on creating tablets and smartphones designed around artificial intelligence.

Reports suggest that the company is currently working on their own 3D Touch technology and are also dabbling in magnetic charging accessories for the handset.
The photo from Rubin also comes a few days after a report from WSJ claimed that SoftBank had scrapped its plans of investing $100 million in Rubin’s company due to its close ties with Apple.
With all major flagship smartphones this year expected to debut with a bezel-less design, it is good to see Rubin also taking a similar approach with the first major smartphone from his new company. A bezel-less design will help ensure that the device is able to easily catch the attention of consumers and generate interest around it. For now, reports suggest that the first smartphone from Essential will launch in mid-2017.
Will you buy a smartphone from Andy Rubin’s Essential Products if it turns out to be a compelling product?
