Every month, Google takes a snapshot of the current state of Android and its distribution when checked against devices accessing the Google Play store.
In the latest distribution report, Android 4.4 KitKat is still working hard on keeping the lead when compared to the previous versions of Google’s mobile operating system. Indeed, KitKat is now registering on 39.1% of devices, when in December 2014 Google showed it on just over 33 percent of devices. OF course, as KitKat continues to grow, the other variants continue to slip.
Every single version of Android before version 4.4 fell at least some percentage from the report published in December. Last month, Android 4.3 showed up on 7.8 percent of devices, but now only registers on 6.5%. Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich is now registering on 6.7%, and a month ago Google had its distribution at 7.8%. Android Gingerbread is now resting comfortably at 7.8 percent itself, while in December it registered at 9.1%.
As is to be expected, Android 5.0 Lollipop is not registering in Google’s report just yet, but that should be changing in the near future.
