Android Wear update

Google today announced a new update for Android Wear that adds some new gestures to make navigation easier and new voice actions so that you can do more without having to actually use your hands.

The new gestures will allow you to easily expand cards, or go back to your watch face by using a simple push, lift or shake gesture. The new gestures build on the existing gestures already present in Android Wear, which allow you to scroll to the next card via a simple flick of the wrist.

Additionally, the update will now also make it possible to use voice actions to send messages to your friends or families from apps like Hangouts, Telegram, Viber, and WhatsApp. Simply say “OK Google, send a WhatsApp message to” followed by your message to your Android Wear watch and you are done.

Lastly, on supported Android Wear watches, it will now also be possible to receive calls over Bluetooth.  For now, this only includes the Huawei Watch and the Asus ZenWatch 2 (49mm), but next generation of Android Wear watches should also include a built-in speaker to take advantage of this new feature.

Google will be rolling out this new update to existing Android Wear smartwatches over the next few weeks. The update will also be available for watches like Casio’s Smart Outdoor Watch and TAG Heuer.
