On April 20, Google announced the next major update to its Android Wear platform, bringing Wi-Fi support, handwritten emojis and more to the wearable lineup.
Now, on Wednesday, April 22, Google has seen fit to update the Android Wear companion app to give it a new, refreshed design as well as throw in some new features, too. As far as the aesthetics are concerned, there’s a lot more Material Design going around now in the app, which puts the companion app more in line with the other Google apps out there. Finding settings for a specific Android Wear-based device are now listed under the device’s name, which means a bit more tapping.
One of the major new features though is Cloud Sync, which also enables the Wi-Fi support headed to Android Wear soon. With Cloud Sync, you’ll be able to receive notifications, use apps and voice search, plus other key elements without having to have your phone and watch connected by Bluetooth. When your phone is connected to some kind of network, be it cellular or Wi-Fi, and your smartwatch is connected to a Wi-Fi network, it will automatically sync all of the necessary information and deliver it to your wrist.
A link to the companion app is down below, and it’s a free download.
