Android O Notification Dots

With Android O, Google is introducing a new way for apps to show their notifications: Notifications Dots.

Now whenever there is a new notification from any app, its app icon will have a small dot to denote it. To view the notification, users simply need to long press on the app icon which would bring up the unread notification.

In the demo during the keynote, David Burke was able to see his unread notifications from Instagram by simply long pressing on the app icon on his home screen.

To dismiss a Notification Dot, one simply needs to swipe away the notification from the notification shade.

Notification Dots requires no additional work from developers as the feature will automatically pull the notification and other relevant information automatically.
