Android Nougat made some big gains in Google’s Android platform distribution numbers last month, and it continues its impressive gains in March as well. In just a single month, Nougat’s share has increased from 2.8% to 4.9% in Android’s platform distribution numbers.
The increase in Nougat’s share can likely be attributed to Samsung updating its massively popular Galaxy S7, S7 edge, Galaxy S6, and previous flagship devices to Nougat.
Despite Nougat’s impressive gains, Lollipop continues to remain the most popular version of Android with a 32 percent share. Marshmallow came in a close second at 31.2 percent, and its likely that we will see the OS overtake Lollipop to become the most popular distribution of Android by next month.
Years after their release, Gingerbread (0.9%) and Ice Cream Sandwich (0.9%) continue to run on a fraction of Android devices out there, though it is likely they will completely disappear within the next few months.
