The Nokia X2 is certainly under development, if all the leaks and rumors in the last few weeks are to be believed. Microsoft has been said to be letting Nokia’s Android project continue even after acquiring its hardware business, and according to a new report, we could see the successor to the Nokia X sooner rather than later, supposedly as early as the end of this month.
BGR India cites sources as saying that the launch of the Nokia X2 is “merely three weeks away.” The site has also published what it believes is the shipment info for the X2, carrying model number RM-1013, with the device having been shipped to India for testing multiple times since early February. That does hint at the possibility of the phone being almost ready for launch, but it remains to be seen if the RM-1013 and the X2 are the same device.
With the Nokia X having launched less than three months ago, it would be an odd move for Microsoft to make its successor official so soon. It doesn’t sound implausible, but without more concrete details to back things up, we will have to take this report with the proverbial pinch of salt.
The Nokia X2 is expected to feature a hardware home button to make things more user-friendly, and pack specs such as a 4.3-inch WVGA display, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel camera, and 4GB of internal storage. Not exactly a huge upgrade, but I guess Nokia Microsoft will be able to use the hurried development as an excuse for that if the phone does happen to launch in the next few weeks.
