The second developer preview for Android M was released not too long ago, and as such new details are finding their way to the surface.
One of those new features, visual voicemail support in stock Android, has been confirmed to already be present in the pre-release software. An individual at Google confirmed that “basic implementation” for visual voicemail is already supported by Android M, but that it’s only supported by the carrier Orange in France. However, when Android M launches to the public later this year, it will be supported by T-Mobile in the U.S. as well.
Right now, as confirmed by Android Police, visual voicemail is working.
With visual voicemail support, the days of listening through a voicemail inbox will be one step closer to going away. Of course, support has to expand beyond just a couple of carriers, so hopefully that happens soon.
