In addition to announcing the roll out of Android 6.0.1, Google also uploaded the full factory images for all its Nexus devices on its developer website.
Despite being a .1 release, the latest version of Marshmallow brings with it quite a few noticeable improvements and enhancements. The highlight of the update has to be the support for a bunch of new Unicode 8 emojis. Google was forced to add support for new emojis to the OS after Apple added unicode 8 emojis support to iOS with the iOS 9.1 update in October, which led to the former company receiving a lot of flak from its users.
For tablets, Google has repositioned the buttons on the navigation bar to make it easily reachable to your thumbs. The back and home button have been re-positioned to the left side of the navigation bar, while the overview button has been repositioned to the right.
There are quite a few other minor changes in Android 6.0.1, and it also comes bundled with December’s monthly security update patches from Google. Since the OTA update is still not available for manual sideload, you can flash the factory image if you are impatient to get Android 6.0.1 up and running on your device.
