While Android 4.3 is yet to be released from Google, nearly everything about this new version of Jelly Bean is known. The update will not bring any new feature, except for some minor additions like a matured Roboto font and some under-the-hood changes for more buttery smooth apps.
However, it looks like with Android 4.3 Google is going to include a new notification service that allows “Notification Listener” apps like Light Flow and Tasker etc. to read, access, dismiss and tap buttons on a notification. In fact, Google had informed about this upcoming feature in advance to the Light Flow developer.
So, how exactly is this new notification service going to affect you? Using this new service, third party apps can take full control over your notification bar without any clumsy hacks. This will also allow you to directly dismiss a notification from any of your wearable computing devices like the Pebble or Google Glass. You can even use these devices to pause/resume music playback and do much more.
Theoretically, we can also see some third-party apps that completely replace the notification bar using this service. However, since the notification bar in itself is linked to the System UI of Android, Google will need to de-couple it before it is actually made possible in real life.
