In a move that’s sure to set the stage for International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) 2024, Adobe has rolled out beta updates for its flagship video editing suite, Premiere Pro, and its dynamic motion graphics tool, After Effects. These updates aren’t just tweaks; they bring a new era of creative control with advanced color management, innovative 3D workflows, and significant performance boosts—aimed at giving editors an even sharper edge in their craft.
Key Features and Improvements
The headline feature in this release was an all-new color management system. Adobe stated that this system offered end-to-end color processing without the need for LUTs (Look-Up Tables).
According to Adobe, the system included six presets that worked automatically in the background, abstracting the process for beginners. Additionally, the software supported a wide spectrum of working color spaces and provided greater support for cameras from RED, ARRI, Sony, Canon, and more.
For those concerned about legacy projects, Adobe assured that the default preset mirrored the standard Premiere Pro setting, ensuring older projects retained their original appearance. The color accuracy was also maintained across Premiere Pro and After Effects through Dynamic Link.
A new Properties panel in Premiere Pro consolidated the most popular tools, effects, and quick actions, making them easier to access. For instance, the Crop tool was directly built into the program monitor, supporting adjustments for multiple clips simultaneously.
The user interface has also been updated with rounded corners and more legible fonts to enhance comfort for extended use. Additionally, users now have the option to select from two dark modes, a light mode, and a high-contrast mode.
