Browsing the internet can be a tricky thing, especially on mobile, when full-screen advertisements can come out of seemingly nowhere to impede an otherwise fun experience.
For those that can’t stand ads, and want a way to block them, then Adblock Plus has a browser for you. It’s built from the open-source Firefox for Android, and implants the Adblock Plus right out of the gate, so that blocking ads while browsing the web is easier than ever before.
Adblock Plus has come up with different ways of blocking ads in the past, including side-loaded apps and hoops to jump through, but this new browser is meant to avoid all of that. Moreover, a previous app from the company, Adblock Plus for Android, was kicked out of the Google Play Store with other ad-blocking apps back in March of 2013. The company looks to alleviate any issues with the stand-alone browser, though, as the company says it doesn’t interfere with any other apps, but simply blocks the ads that might pop up while you’re browsing the web.
“As people have embraced the mobile web, advertisers have rushed in after them and destroyed the user experience with ads that are often thoughtlessly designed, as well as mobile ad networks that are riddled with security holes,” Adblock Plus co-founder Till Faida said in a statement. “Adblock Browser for Android puts the control back into users’ hands.“
The app is currently in beta form right now, with the APK available to download here, or at the bottom of this article. The company plans on releasing it out of beta either in July or August, and they hope to include other features to protect against malware as well in that subsequent release. The company also hinted that the app’s look could change over time as the developers continue to work on it.
