Earlier today, Samsung announced the Galaxy S4 mini. I thought they would announce it at their upcoming event in London, but I was wrong. That’s not the only device I was looking forward to however, there are a few more GS4 variants in the pipeline, namely the GS4 Active (above) and the GS4 Zoom. There’s a rumor about a GS4 Mega, but I’ll ignore that since the evidence is sketchy.
Focusing on the GS4 Active, everyone has been saying it’ll be nothing more than a ruggedized version of the GS4. Same internals and everything. According to the Russian website Hi-Tech, that’s not the case. They were the first site to leak the Galaxy Core, so that’s why I trust them. Hi-Tech says the Active will have almost the same specifications as the GS4, with the only real thing changing being the camera. It’s going to be “downgraded” to an 8 megapixel shooter.
And as for the GS4 Zoom, the site says it’ll look remarkably similar to the GS4 mini, except that it’s going to have a larger 16 megapixel sensor, 10x optical zoom, a slightly slower 1.6 GHz processor (the GS4 mini does 1.7 GHz), and there will not be any 4G LTE support.
Will Samsung announce both these devices before June 20th? I certainly hope not, it would make flying all the way to London kind of a waste of time, wouldn’t it?
