Microsoft’s latest operating system haven’t exactly been well received. Windows 8 changed just about every single thing Windows users have learned since the early 90s. And Windows Phone … let’s not go there. So it’s with little surprise that Acer has announced that they want to shift some of their attention away from Microsoft’s offerings. The exact quote from the company’s President, Jim Wang:
“We are trying to grow our non-Windows business as soon as possible. Android is very popular in smartphones and dominant in tablets. I also see a new market there for Chromebooks.”
Acer’s goal is to have products running Google’s software make up 10% of their revenues by the end of the year. And in 2014, they want to make that number hit 30%. So while Acer is signaling that no, they don’t like Windows, it’s still going to make up a bulk of their revenue.
Is Acer alone? Nope. Just look at HP, which launched an Android all-in-one PC and an Android notebook this year. Also, Lenovo, the world’s largest PC maker, they have a whole range of Android powered smartphones and tablets that are popular in India and China.
