Samsung is where they are today because they make a majority of the components needed to make a smartphone. Screens, batteries, processors, you name it, they make it. This year however, the company stretched themselves a bit too thin. The GS4 for instance, it comes with either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 or a Samsung made Exynos 5 Octa, but good luck trying to find that Octa version. It’s only shipping in a limited number of countries, many of them are quite small.

According to SamMobile, Samsung is planning on making a 10.1 inch version of the Galaxy Tab 3 that uses an Intel Atom processor, specifically the Z2560. Their evidence to support this claim is an entry in GLBenchmark’s database, which can be easily faked, but someone would have to be a real piece of work to go through the hassle of faking this.

Is such a tablet possible? Sure. What better way to test a relationship with a new hardware vendor than to shove one of their products in a device that you know isn’t going to get a lot of sales? Sorry, but 10.1 inch tablets are just … let’s not go there.

Now as for the rest of the specs of this rumored device, that 10.1 inch panel is said to push 1280 x 800 pixels. That’s beyond terrible, but maybe there’s a point to all this. Maybe Samsung wants to introduce a sub $300 tablet that can compete with the likes of the $180 Acer Iconia A1?
